The Arcic Vocational Foundation and College Gränsälvsgymnasiet in Övertorneå
On 23 March, ArcticSkills 2021 is taking place digitally, and the Arctic Vocational Foundation (Stiftelsen Nordkalotten) together with the sixth form college Gränsälvsgymnasiet is hosting the event. Last year, when the competition was due to take place in Övertorneå, we were forced to cancel it because of the corona pandemic.
ArcticSkills is a vocational competition in the Barents Region, based on the WorldSkills concept – competitors come from different schools in Northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia that offer upper secondary vocational studies. The purpose of ArcticSkills is to showcase and develop the vocational skills of young people and to promote cooperation in the Barents Region.
The competition is to be streamed live from four countries.
For the first time in the six-year history of the vocational constitution, the event will be streamed. The competition is sorted under 15 different vocational fields, including medical and social care, electrical engineering, vehicle technology, hairdressing and welding. The public can follow the competition, for example on the website ArcticSkills.com.
“Last year the competition was to have taken place in our centre in Övertorneå as part of our 50th Jubilee celebrations, but it was cancelled due to the pandemic. We are incredibly pleased to be hosting the competition this year together with Gränsälvsgymnasiet, when for the first time the competition will be held digitally,” says Leif Lahti, Director of the Arctic Vocational Foundation.
